Do you have enough space??

Quote:
EXP-00028: failed to open string for write
Cause: Export failed to open the export file for writing. This message is usually followed by device messages from the operating system.
Action: Take appropriate action to restore the device.

to export a database every 30mins

Why do you want to do this?
Did you never ear about archivelog mode and recovery?

its a test because the archive log mode is shutdown so this is being done as a fail safe it will be restored soon but this is being used right now, also there is enough space on the hard drive for the export it is a very small database

Does the (oracle?) user have write permission to this folder?
When was the last time this worked?

It takes 30 seconds to activate archivelog mode.
Much less than this topic lifetime.

ok we have a standby database but this particular database is not supported on it as yet and i wont be on there for a bit so in the mean time i am trying to find an alternate way to keep it "kinda" backed up until we decide to put it onto the standby database server

Given that you can export in less than 30 minutes, I'll take less than 30 minutes to switch to archivelog mode, take a hot backup and no more care about crash.
Just backup from time to time the archived logs (once a day?).

ok i will try ur suggestion but can u give any reason why the export did not work with the oracle enterprise manager because i would also like to be able to do this export once a day for other purposes.

Ur idea makes much more sense but i am working under other instructions if u know what i mean.

It usually makes no sense that you will take export of the whole database in every 30 minutes. Take the backup after every 1 days. What I think is that the time you need to take export is more than 30 minutes. As a result the scheduler tries to take the dump in same place again but it is busy with previous backup process. So error comes.

It also may be the case that in your file there is no permission of the user by whom u are making export.

N.B: I am new and my suggestion may be wrong.
