It's probably not the best place to ask this, because I assume everyone is biassed towards Oracle (I certainly am). However, I've been offered to chance of a year's contract but it means switching to SQL*Server. Looking at it from a purely commercial point of view (leaving aside whether you think Oracle is better than SQL*Server or vice versa), would this be a good move ?

It is. Several times i was asked the same question (interiviews/colleagues/newbies/all cases).
It depends on what you want to become.
An Oracle technologist with absolutely no experience in any competent (?? Smile) products
or
A database professional with Oracle as primary skill and sqlserver/DB2/alltherest as secondary skills?
Ages ago, I used to consult and technical 'flexibility' is big credit (atleast for the Recruiters/Project Managers).
Nowadays, i really advocate for a MySQL/PostGRE also Smile
Regards~
