I just installed Oracle 9i. I'm trying to logon to the Oracle Management Server through the Enterprise Manager Console. I keep getting an error message:

VTK-1000 Unable to connect to the management server....

I have unsuccessfull tried several different names including machine name, ip address, variations of the machine name, etc.

How do I determine what the name of my management server is?

I thought the repository was created upon installation.

How can I check to see if a repository exists?

Not manually. I thought all that executed at the end of the installation.

I guess you are saying it has to be invoked and configured before I can logon?

I cannot speak for you, As i have no idea what you did.

If you want to use OMS / OEM console , then
install oracle software(with enterprise options) and create database.
install OMS.
Install repository.
Start all participant databases.
Start all participant listeners.
Start Intelligent agents in all participating nodes.
Start OMS
Login to OMS.
Detect Node
Detech Databases,listeners other services.
Do your business.
else
If you don't care for full functionality of OMS/OEM,
use OEM standalone ( which does not require OMS).
